Youth for Empowerment and Skills (YES) (2021–2023)

Implemented under Cycles 2 and 3 of the CREATE Programme, the Youth for Empowerment and Skills (YES) Project targeted vulnerable and at-risk youth in Hindi Ward, one of the areas identified as highly vulnerable to radicalization and recruitment into violent extremist networks.

The project provided comprehensive support packages to sixty-five young people, including trauma healing, mentorship, psychosocial support, life skills training, networking opportunities, and linkages to employment and livelihood opportunities. The intervention responded to a context characterized by inter-communal tensions, religious polarization, land-related conflicts associated with the LAPSSET corridor, and proximity to the Boni Forest, all of which created conditions that could be exploited by extremist actors.

By supporting youth with practical skills, psychosocial support, and positive engagement opportunities, the project contributed to strengthening resilience, promoting social cohesion, and creating pathways for young people to become active contributors to peace and development.
