Sustainable Ecosystem Initiative – Lake Kenyatta (2022–2023)

With support from the Lamu Environment Foundation, LOYA implemented an initiative aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and strengthening community resilience around Lake Kenyatta in Mpeketoni.

The project focused on increasing awareness of climate change and its impacts, promoting biodiversity conservation, supporting ecosystem restoration, and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders. It addressed environmental challenges while simultaneously recognizing the links between environmental degradation, resource competition, and social tensions.

The initiative contributed to improved community understanding of environmental stewardship and strengthened partnerships among local communities, environmental actors, and development stakeholders.
