About us
Who We Are
Lamu Outreach Youth Agenda (LOYA) is a youth-led and community-driven organization based in Lamu County, Kenya. Since its establishment in January 2020, LOYA has worked to promote peacebuilding, conflict transformation, youth empowerment, social inclusion, and sustainable development among vulnerable and marginalized communities.
The organization was established in response to the growing challenges facing communities in coastal Kenya, including inter-community conflicts, political tensions, youth unemployment, social exclusion, environmental degradation, and the increasing vulnerability of young people to radicalization and violent extremism.
LOYA emerged from a shared conviction among local youth leaders that sustainable peace cannot be imposed from outside communities but must be built from within through dialogue, participation, trust-building, and collective action. This belief continues to shape our approach and defines our identity as an organization committed to community-led transformation.
We work with a broad range of stakeholders, including young people, women, elders, faith leaders, government institutions, community organizations, and development partners to create opportunities for meaningful dialogue and collaborative action. Through these partnerships, we support communities to address the root causes of conflict and vulnerability while promoting social cohesion and resilience.
Our work is guided by a people-centered philosophy that recognizes the importance of local knowledge, community ownership, and inclusive participation in achieving sustainable development outcomes. We believe that diverse communities can peacefully coexist when they have opportunities to communicate openly, address grievances constructively, and work together toward common goals.

To spearhead peacebuilding through transforming conflict and preventing and countering violent extremism in order to achieve sustainable peace and reconciliation founded upon the principles of democracy, pluralism, justice, and social inclusion.
